Users get to see the calculated results on the actual pipe system drawing where the color coding and graphical representation of the piping model gives them an instant visual analysis of their system, the flow rates, the pressure losses, and the operating points of their pumps. Pipes and nodes can be drawn against a color gradient that is specified for a particular calculation, such as the volume of flow in a pipe, the pressure drop in a pipe, the friction loss in a pipe or other results data, making it easy to ‘highlight’ and instantly see any problem areas.

When the user wants to see the calculations in a list, the PipeFlow Expert 2009 results can be viewed in spreadsheet format and exported to Microsoft Excel with one click.

Video demonstrations of Pipe Flow Expert

January 18th, 2008

Video demonstrations of Pipe Flow Expert, a software package for solving the flows, pressures and pumping requirements in pipe systems have been released by www.pipeflow.co.uk - you can view the videos by visiting the web site and clicking on ‘Pipe Flow Expert’->’Videos’

Video 1 gives an introduction to the features and functionality of Pipe Flow Expert, demonstrating the simple user interface while showing off the robust calculation engine thats allows a user to solve the pressure losses and fluid flow rates throughout a pipe system.

Pipe Flow Expert Video

Video 2 describes a classic Three Reservoir Problem, where flow occurs in separate pipes from two elevated reservoirs, until the two pipes join at a common point at a particular elevation and from this point the fluid moves down a third pipe to a base reservoir. The question asked is ‘What flow will occur under gravity in each pipe in the system and what is the total flow rate that will be delivered to the base reservoir?’.

While this sounds like a simple problem, it is not easy to solve by hand calculations since the flow and pressures in the system must be balanced at all points and as the flow increases in one pipe so does the friction loss in the pipe, which means that the flow joining this pipe is then changed because there is more resistance to push against. Accurately solving the flows and pressures in even simple pipe networks where flows join together is a difficult problem - unless you have the right software, such as Pipe Flow Expert, which then does make it an easy task.

Video 3 shows how to find the pump head required to move water at 200 US gpm between two tanks at different elevations. One tank is located at 0 ft elevation and the other tank is located at an elevation of 280 ft and the tanks are connected by a series of pipes that contain a number of bends and fittings. The system is easily modelled in Pipe Flow Expert and the required pump head is calculated instantly.

PipeFlow expect to add more videos over the coming weeks to show how Pipe Flow Expert can be used to model and solve a wide variety of general hydraulic problems that may be encountered by a process engineer.

The videos are also available on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/pipeflowsoftware

Pipe Flow Expert is used by people worldwide in many different industries, ranging from individual consultant engineers through to large multi-national companies.

Verification of Pipe Flow Expert Calculation Results

January 4th, 2008

Pipe Flow Expert Verification
PipeFlow.co.uk today released a 40 plus page case study that compares the flow and pressure loss calculation results produced by their Pipe Flow Expert software against the published results data for the modelled systems, which comes from a number of well respected sources. In all 40 plus cases the Pipe Flow Expert results compared very favorably.

The full verification document, including a brief description of each system modelled and a tabulated comparison of the Pipe Flow Expert results against published results, can be downloaded from the following web page:

Pipe Flow Expert Calculation Results Verification

It can be shown that the Pipe Flow Expert calculation results agree with the fundamental equations for flows and head losses in pipe networks by checking the results against the flow continuity equations and the conservation of energy equations that follow pressure losses around loops in a pipe system.

Potential users of Pipe Flow Expert are invited to review the results verification document to satisfy themselves that calculations produced by Pipe Flow Expert match the expected results.

Pipe Flow Expert can be downloaded for a free trial and any questions can be emailed to info@pipeflow.co.uk
